5 years in New England.

Lately its become more and more obvious that our time here is running short. There's (literally) a list on our refrigerator of things we've been wanting to do before we leave Vermont: hot air balloon ride, hike the infamous "Camel's Hump," the Ben and Jerry's Factory Tour, the Granite Museum Tour, finally go to Montréal, Québec, etc, but it appears that we might not have enough time...

Bittersweet is a perfect way to describe it.

...Its bitter because of all the cold months we've spent bundled up in countless layers to keep warm, the sometimes back-breaking snow shoveling that leaves you cursing at the sky if/when the next snowflake falls upon you, and the grey, menacing, cloudy days that loom over you like the world could quite possibly end at any moment.

...And then of course there are the sweet moments like: exploring mom-and-pop, "hole-in-the-wall" places that are waiting to be discovered, hiking in the woods and reveling in the beauty of Vermont (especially in the fall), or those warm summer days you walk around with an ice cream cone, hand-in-hand with your love, and feeling the sun's warmth on your shoulders and face...a feeling you've been waiting months to feel.

We truly are having the time of our lives...(even if we spend a lot of it complaining to others about the temperature outside). I know I tend to bash Vermont incessantly at times, simply because it really can be a miserable state to live in during the winter...if I'm being completely honest. On the other hand, its taught me to appreciate every place we've lived and never take it for granted. Because at the heart of it, isn't it really just about our attitudes towards the place? If our outlook changes, it doesn't seem like such a bad place...pleasant, even.

Taking a delicious detour in Stowe, VT.
